Backpacker insurance required for 2nd year away

August 22nd, 2011

can believe what i am reading, so unfair

My son has been away in Oz for a year on a working holiday visa. He has accumulated enough days to get a 2nd year visa. When he goes back he will have been in the uk for 2 months.

We can’t find any insurers who will insurance for another year. The sticking point seems to be that you have to have been in the uk for 6 of the last 12 months.

Has anyone had to deal with this and managed to find someone who will cover their backpacker?

Home Contents Insurance

so interesting

Hi peeps
i am new here and need some advice please.
I was recently burgled and lost jewellry. I have contents insurance and one item was a specified item due to the high value. I purchased this item 4 years ago and had it valued. Unfortunately due to the increase in gold etc since purchasing it, it has gone over and above the specified item valuation by double.
The insurance company has said that as it was specified at one valuation they would only pay out for that amount regardless if it is currently at a higher valuation.
So this means that i cannot get the same item replaced unless i pay double.
By the way, the other items taken which were not specified have also increased in valuation and they are paying out for them upto the full cover allbeit they are lesser amounts than the specified item.

Can this be right?
I feel cheated.

I cannot claim for a cancelled holiday

no load life insurance quote

Can anyone help…..My dad was taken into hospital for a bad back 2 days before I took out holiday Insurance, unfortunately my dad passed suddenly and tests showed that the bad back was cancer. We cancelled our holiday due to the funeral being held at the time we would of been away but the Travel Insurance company won’t pay us for the cancelled holiday due to the fact he was in hospital….We have explained that my father was diagnosed with cancer afterwards and that surely just being admitted for a bad back did not warrant us not to go on holiday and that we actually cancelled due to funeral date and not because of his passing.

I am not understanding can somebody help me understand please.

Contents insurance when home working

how doe this impact my state

A friend is about to start a new job which will involve working from home approx 3 days a week. She will be employed full time and nobody will visit the house as a result of this. The company is providing all the IT equipment she needs.
She is looking at contents insurance as she is moving into a new rented property, most ask about running a business from home (which she isn’t) but do not ask about working from home.
Does she need to contact the insurer to tell them before taking out a policy and will it increase the premiums? If so any suggestion as to good providers?

Claiming on car insurance when paying monthly by direct debit…

August 2nd, 2011

no load life insurance

Hi there….

The other day a friend of mine had a car accident (was their fault) and their car was a write off..they have had an offer for their car etc.

I told them that they would have to pay the remainder of the years insurance as they paid monthly…the reason I said this was 4 years ago when my car was written off I was made to by elephant car insurance. The accident had not been my fault.

My friends car insurance has not mentioned this…so I wondered have I been conned or will my friend have to pay or have the rules changed? I also lost a years no claims discount because I wasn’t driving for the full year!!!!

Many thanks :)

Home Insurance Nightmare

Hi All,

I dont know how much information you all need so sorry if I give too much. I owned a flat for 6 years, had house insurance all the way through, never made a claim. Moved into a new house 3.5 weeks ago, ensured I swapped my insurance etc paid all the admin fees and the increase in the policy.

On the day we moved in the kitchen sink seemed to drain slowly so we brought some sink and plug hole unblocker etc. Nothing made a massive difference. On Monday this week I finally phoned the drain surgeons. They were really good (I actually use them through my work) and did a full investigation. Turns out all the drainage / sewage pipes are fractured. I called my solicitor and she says that there is nothing that they can do. I called my insurance and they have said there is nothing they can do as the pipes have not fractured in 3.5 weeks….

So I now have to arrange to get my gardens dug up etc to get the pipes relayed costing approx
